OK, I'm about a week late, but Happy New Year anyways! A new year, and time for new pictures. These were taken on a walk around Old Town in Alexandria, VA, and all with my Tamron 75-300 telephoto. The more I use that lens, the more I love it. Sure, it's got a little chromatic aberration in high contrast areas, and it's a bit soft at 300mm, and, yeah, the minimal focusing distance is almost 5 feet, but considering the gorgeous control over depth of field, the great resolution between 75-250mm, the smooth 9-blade aperture (which gives great bokeh when wanted - more on that some other time), the 1.5x crop factor on APS-C sensors (bringing the reach to 450mm equivalent), and that
price(!), it's really hard to beat, especially on a budget. You can do better, but you'll have to spend a lot more money.

Ahh, the classic reflective ornament shot . . .

I will always have fond memories of
this boat.

Maybe the ornament shot's better in purple?

Yeah, I think the winner is the one in red. Can't beat classic Christmas colors for this shot.
Happy New Year again!
Love them Steve! You really nailed the DOF and are using it great to your benifit! BTW, my Sony a700 decided to stop controlling the apreture yesterday, so it's off to the shop. Any good camera repair shop recommendations? I downloaded the service manual and I think I can do it, but...whew! Happy shooting!
