Photo assignment - week 4

The challenge for the Apostles photo team for week 4 was shadows. The challenge for me was finding time to shoot. It was all I could do to muster up three shots, which I whittled down to these two.

This first one I think has potential. I need to shoot it again with more ambient light so that the nightlight isn't so badly overexposed. The catch is that it's one of those light-sensitive nightlights. Turn on the overhead light, the nightlight goes out. Want the nightlight on, gotta turn off the overhead light, and the nightlight gets lost in the dynamic range. So I'll need to trick it. Or HDR. Either should be doable.

This other one came from a walk around the neighborhood at high noon. OK, it was 3:22 in the afternoon, but still bright sunlight, glaring sidewalks, and shadows from this scaffolding. I liked the patterns of the shadows criss-crossing diagonally over the straight cracks in the sidewalk.

Maybe for the next assignment I'll do one in color.

Nah.
